Concerns We Support
Knee & Joint Pain
Aching knees and stiff joints respond to Janu Vasti, herbal poultices and warm pastes: Ayurveda's oldest speciality.
Knees complain loudly in Dubai: gym loads, long hours standing, extra body weight and, with age, the slow wear that stiffens every stair climb. Joint care is among the oldest and most developed branches of Ayurvedic practice, with therapies designed to warm, cushion and mobilise joints that have become dry and irritable.
At 22 Ayur, joint plans are built around where the discomfort lives, one knee, both knees, or several joints, and around what your reports say, whether that is early wear, an old sports injury, or arthritis diagnosed by your doctor.
Dry joints, warm answers
In classical terms, joint pain is Sandhigata Vata: the drying of the cushioning element within a joint, leaving bone surfaces irritable and the surrounding muscles guarded. Swelling and heat around a joint are read as Ama, metabolic residue, settling where circulation has slowed.
The response is layered: continuous warmth to the joint itself, herbal pastes to address swelling, and oil therapies for the whole limb so the joint stops working in isolation.
The joint care toolkit at 22 Ayur
Janu Vasti pools warm medicated oil directly over the knee inside a dough ring, the knee-specific form of the Vasti family. Upanaham wraps the joint in a warm herbal paste bandage that continues working for hours. Lepanam applies medicated pastes where swelling and irritation sit close to the surface, and Sweda with Kizhi brings poultice warmth to the muscles that support the joint. For widespread stiffness, Pizhichil streams warm oil over the whole body, and Avagaham immerses the lower body in a warm herbal bath.
These therapies are traditionally used to help ease joint pain and morning stiffness. Guests with diagnosed arthritis continue their prescribed treatment; our role is comfort, mobility and supportive care alongside it.
Therapies we draw on for this concern
Kadeevasti / Greevasti / Januvasti
A warm pool of medicated oil held within a dough dam on your lower back, neck, or knee, bathing the area in deep, penetrating warmth.
Upanaham
A warm herbal poultice bandage is wrapped around painful joints, delivering sustained healing through the night while you rest.
Lepanam
A fragrant, cooling herbal paste is applied to inflamed areas, drawing out heat and swelling like a poultice from nature.
Sweda with Kizhi
Warm herbal poultices are rhythmically pressed across the body, releasing deep-seated tension and flooding your muscles with healing warmth.
Pizhichil
The 'royal treatment' — warm medicated oil continuously poured and massaged across the entire body.
Avagaham
A warm herbal bath where your body soaks in a medicated decoction, melting away pain and tension from the inside out.
Important to know
22 Ayur is a wellness clinic, not a hospital. Our therapies offer traditional, supportive care; they do not diagnose, cure or replace medical treatment, and we will always encourage you to see a medical doctor for diagnosed conditions, severe symptoms or anything sudden and unexplained. Every plan starts with an assessment, and our practitioners will tell you plainly what our care can and cannot do for your situation.

Can Ayurveda cure arthritis?
No, and you should be cautious of anyone who says otherwise. Ayurvedic joint therapies are traditionally used to help ease pain and stiffness and to support mobility. They complement, and never replace, the treatment your rheumatologist or orthopaedic doctor has prescribed.
Which therapy is right for my knee?
It depends on what the knee presents: a cold, stiff, aching joint points toward Janu Vasti and Kizhi; a swollen, irritated one toward Upanaham and Lepanam. The first visit settles this; plans are chosen after assessment, not off a menu.
Does body weight matter for knee pain?
Yes, load matters, and many joint plans pair knee therapies with Udvarthanam and dietary guidance from our weight management approach. Reducing what the knee carries is often the most lasting kindness you can show it.
