Lepanam
A fragrant, cooling herbal paste is applied to inflamed areas, drawing out heat and swelling like a poultice from nature.
Lepanam is an external Ayurvedic treatment where a thick, medicated herbal paste is prepared from freshly ground herbs, clays, and medicinal powders, then applied directly to the affected area. The paste is left to work for a specified duration, during which the herbs draw out inflammation, toxins, and excess heat from the tissues. This therapy embodies the Ayurvedic principle of Pratimarsha, or counter-application. When Pitta dosha causes heat, redness, and swelling in the joints or skin, Lepanam applies cooling, anti-inflammatory herbs to restore balance. The herbs are selected based on the specific condition, making each Lepanam treatment uniquely tailored. The application of the paste feels cool and soothing on inflamed skin. As the herbs begin to work, you may notice a gentle drawing sensation as toxins and excess heat are pulled from the tissues. The aromatic herbal fragrance creates a grounding, earthy atmosphere that deepens your relaxation.
