Sinus, Allergy & Breathing Comfort

Nasyam and Dhoomapanam: the classical nasal and respiratory therapies for a region of dust, AC and year-round sniffles.

Between desert dust, construction, year-round air conditioning and indoor-outdoor temperature swings, noses in the UAE have a hard job. Blocked mornings, pressure across the cheekbones, seasonal sneezing runs and the heavy-headed dullness of congested sinuses are constant companions for many residents.

Ayurveda holds a dedicated set of nasal and respiratory therapies, with the nose treated as the doorway to the head. At 22 Ayur these are offered as individual sessions and as short courses for stubborn congestion patterns.

The nose as gateway

Classical practice treats the nasal passage as the direct route to the head and sinuses, and congestion as Kapha accumulating where air should move. Recurrent sneezing and reactive noses carry a Vata edge, the system over-responding to dust, scent and cold air.

The therapies clear and condition the passage itself, medicated oil drops, herbal smoke, steam, while food and routine guidance reduces the congestion the system keeps producing.

The respiratory repertoire

Nasyam is the centrepiece: medicated oil administered through the nasal passage after preparatory massage and steam, traditionally used for sinus heaviness, blocked breathing and congestion-led headaches. Dhoomapanam follows classical practice with medicated herbal smoke inhaled through the nose to condition the airway. Ksheeradhoomam applies medicated milk steam to the face, and Siro Abhyanga adds the head-and-neck release that congested heads crave.

Courses are short and seasonal; many guests time them to the months their sinuses dread. Diagnosed respiratory conditions such as asthma remain under your doctor's care, and inhalers and prescriptions continue exactly as prescribed.

A note on homeopathy

Allergic patterns, recurrent sneezing, dust sensitivity, seasonal rhinitis and children's recurring colds, are a major focus of our homeopathy department, approached through detailed case history as supportive care alongside your physician.

Important to know

22 Ayur is a wellness clinic, not a hospital. Our therapies offer traditional, supportive care; they do not diagnose, cure or replace medical treatment, and we will always encourage you to see a medical doctor for diagnosed conditions, severe symptoms or anything sudden and unexplained. Every plan starts with an assessment, and our practitioners will tell you plainly what our care can and cannot do for your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can these therapies cure my allergies or asthma?

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Diagnosed respiratory conditions belong with your doctor, and prescribed inhalers and medication continue unchanged. Our therapies offer traditional support for congestion and breathing comfort, and homeopathic casework approaches allergic patterns constitutionally alongside medical care.

What does Nasyam feel like?

The face and sinuses are first warmed with massage and steam, then medicated oil is administered through each nostril. There is a brief unusual sensation as the oil moves, followed, for most guests, by a distinct feeling of the head clearing.

When is the best time to do a course?

Just before and during your difficult season. Guests whose congestion peaks with dust season or deep summer AC months often book short courses on that calendar, which is exactly how these therapies were traditionally timed.
