Headaches & Migraine
Nasyam, Shirodhara and Siro Vasti: head-focused classical therapies that may help ease headache and migraine-related tension.
A headache that visits occasionally is a nuisance. One that arrives weekly, builds behind the eyes, or flattens a whole day is a pattern worth treating seriously. Screen glare, air conditioning, disrupted sleep, skipped meals and accumulated stress each feed that pattern, and most people who reach us have tried managing it with painkillers alone.
Ayurveda holds an unusually rich set of head-focused therapies, from oil streams across the forehead to medicated nasal care. At 22 Ayur these are combined into plans that also look at the triggers: sleep, digestion, tension in the neck and shoulders.
Where Ayurveda locates a headache
Classical texts describe several headache patterns: Vata types that are tense and searing and worsen with irregularity and lack of sleep; Pitta types that burn behind the eyes and flare with heat and acidity; Kapha types that sit heavy across the forehead with congestion. Migraine, with its one-sided intensity, is traditionally discussed as Ardhavabhedaka.
Reading which pattern dominates decides the therapy: calming oil work for tense patterns, cooling preparations such as Takradhara for burning ones, and clearing nasal therapies where congestion leads.
Head-focused therapies in the plan
Nasyam administers medicated oil through the nasal passage, the classical route to the head, and is a first choice where sinus heaviness accompanies headaches. Shirodhara streams warm oil across the forehead in a slow rhythm that guests describe as switching the mind off; Takradhara does the same with cooling medicated buttermilk for heat-dominant patterns. Siro Vasti holds oil on the crown of the head, and Siro Abhyanga works the scalp, neck and shoulders where muscular tension feeds the pain. A Head, Neck & Shoulder Massage extends that release, and where the picture fits, practitioners may suggest Hijama, traditionally sought for headaches.
These therapies may help ease headache and migraine-related tension. Recurring or unusually severe headaches should always be evaluated by a medical doctor first.
A note on homeopathy
Our homeopathy department also sees guests whose headaches follow hormonal cycles, weather changes or specific foods. A detailed first consultation maps those triggers before any remedy is chosen, and sits comfortably alongside the therapy plan above.

Important to know
22 Ayur is a wellness clinic, not a hospital. Our therapies offer traditional, supportive care; they do not diagnose, cure or replace medical treatment, and we will always encourage you to see a medical doctor for diagnosed conditions, severe symptoms or anything sudden and unexplained. Every plan starts with an assessment, and our practitioners will tell you plainly what our care can and cannot do for your situation.

Can these therapies stop my migraines permanently?
No therapy, Ayurvedic or otherwise, can honestly promise that. What our head-focused therapies offer is traditional, supportive care that may help ease headache and migraine-related tension, with many guests reporting fewer bad days across a course. Keep your neurologist informed and continue prescribed medication.
What is Shirodhara actually like?
You lie comfortably while a fine stream of warm oil moves slowly across the forehead for twenty to forty minutes. Most guests enter a state between waking and sleep. It is the single most requested therapy for tension-heavy heads.
My headaches come with a blocked nose. Does that change the plan?
Yes, meaningfully. Congestion-led headaches point the plan toward Nasyam and related clearing therapies rather than oil streams alone. Mention it at assessment; it is one of the most useful details you can give us.
