Shishu Abhyanga (Baby Massage)

A tender, time-honoured oil massage for your little one that supports healthy growth, soothes colic, and nurtures through the ancient language of touch.

Shishu Abhyanga is the traditional Ayurvedic baby massage, a practice that has been passed from generation to generation in Indian households for thousands of years. Using warm, gentle oils suited to the baby's delicate constitution, a trained therapist performs soft, rhythmic strokes that support the infant's physical development, digestive health, and emotional security. In Ayurveda, regular oil massage for infants (Shishu Abhyanga) is considered as essential as feeding and sleeping. It strengthens the baby's bones and muscles, supports the development of the nervous system, improves circulation, and promotes healthy weight gain. The gentle abdominal massage helps relieve colic and gas, while the full-body touch builds a secure attachment and reduces fussiness. Our therapist works with exquisite gentleness, using warm, baby-safe oil and soft, flowing strokes that follow the baby's natural body contours. The massage covers the entire body, including the limbs, chest, back, and head. Babies often coo, stretch, and eventually drift into a deep, peaceful sleep during the session. Parents are welcome to observe and learn the techniques for daily home practice.

Yes, we encourage parents to learn Shishu Abhyanga for daily home practice. Our therapist can demonstrate the key strokes and sequences during or after the session, and we provide guidance on suitable oils and timing.

The ideal time is 30-45 minutes before a bath, when the baby is calm but alert. Avoid massage immediately after feeding. Morning massage followed by a warm bath creates a wonderful daily routine.
